Served during WWII in the US Army in the European Theater of Operations. He died in an explosion aboard the LCI-92 landing craft during the D-Day Invasion of Omaha Beach in France in June 1944. He was interred in a makeshift cemetery in France shortly after he died. His remains were returned to Houston on October 17, 2025 and were buried at the Houston National Cemetery on October 20, 2025.
