Activity During WWII

Drafted and entered into Active Service on April 4, 1944. After training, he departed the United States on November 13, 1944, and arrived in Italy on November 26, 1944. In January 1945, he arrived in southern France and transited to Alsace to join 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, HQ Co., of the 12th Armored Division as a replacement soldier. He fought in the Battle of the Colmar Pocket and the Alsace/Rhineland Campaign, driving the Nazis out of France and into Germany. On April 11, 1945, he was shot in the arm by a Nazi sniper while taking the village of Kitzingen; he was evacuated to France to recover. He returned to service and was reassigned to HQ Company of VI Corps. After VE Day, he reenlisted in the regular army and served in the Occupation Forces in Germany. He was discharged in November 1946.
