Private First Class Sam Nicholas, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nicholas, Easton, was killed in action in Germany Dec. 22, according to a War department message received by his sister, Mrs. Fred Achenbach, Pen Argyl, with whom he had been residing before he entered the service. Private Nicholas entered the armed forced Aug. 4, 1943, and received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., with an engineer's battalion. On Jan 4, 1944, he was transferred to Iceland, remaining there until last September, when he was sent to England. Later he took part in the battles on the European western front.
