He was a pilot and served in the Fifth Air Force, 22nd Bombardment Group (Medium) in the South West Pacific Theatre. He flew the North American B-25 Mitchell medium bomber and the Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber in campaigns to Papua New Guinea, Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. On May 1, 1944 he was assigned as an Electrical Engineer at Wright Patterson AFB. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; Presidential Unit Citation; American Theater Medal; World War II Victory Medal and America Defense Medal.
