Activity During WWII

He joined the US Army in 1940. He later served with the 34th Field Artillery Battalion (155mm Howitzer) 9th Infantry, in North Africa where his unit earned the Presidential Citation Award for stopping Irwin Rommel’s forces from advancing and causing them to retreat. His unit was eventually sent to Italy where he continued to battle the Nazis. Later in 1943 he was transferred to the 160th Field Artillery, 45th Infantry division where he fought bravely In Operarion Shingle. He was KIA in Anzio Italy on May 12, 1944 after being hit in the abdomen by a German shell Fragment.
