Activity During WWII

He wa s in the U.S. Army from February 1, 1943-January 13, 1946 with his initial entry being Ft. Custer, Michigan. After basic training he was assigned to the newly assembled as Battery A, 257th Field Artillery Batttalion with 155mm Howitzers that fired a 97 pound projectile up to 9 miles. He sailed on the HMS Highland Monarch in September, 1944 to Liverpool, England and then on December 24, 1944 crossed the English Channel, arriving in LeHarve, France. His unit advanced to Luxembourg, Belgium and was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, attached to General Patton's 3rd Army. After the war was over, he departed Marseille, France on the Liberty Ship SS Henry Middleton arriving at Hampton Roads, Virginia on January 11, 1946 then was discharged at Camp Atterbury, Indiana on January 13, 1946.
