He entered the U S Army on October 7, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. Served domestically from Oct. 7, 1942 through June 30, 1944. Beginning July 1, 1944 he served in Europe, landing on Utah Beach on August 5, 1944. For the next 165 days, he traveled the Blue Ride Path through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria with the 3rd Army, 80th Infantry Division, 317th Regiment, 2nd Battalion. He served as a F-5 Corporal and Army Scout. He is the recipient of more than 30 Medals for his service, including a Bronze Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, The WWII Victory Medal, The European -African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and in 2019 he received the French Medal of Honor at the 75th Anniversary of D-Day from French President Macron when he attended the Anniversary at the age of 96.
