She graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and entered active duty as an Army nurse in February 1942. During her wartime service she was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. She served at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts and Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. While at Ft. Devens, she met her future husband Lieutenant Robert H. Brinson, Jr. She was granted an honorable discharge in December 1942.
