Proudly served his country at the end of World War II in the United States Army Air Corp. During his service, he flew 49 missions as a belly gunner in the B17 Flying Fortress as part of the 305th Bomb Group and later flew reconnaissance and mapping missions over Africa and Europe. He was discharged honorably in 1946 after having been awarded the Army of the Occupation Medal and the Victory Medal.
