Activity During WWII

In 1943 until the end of the WWII, Alberta served the war effort as a civilian by working at the Sunflower Ordinance Works located in De Soto, Kansas – her job was loading bullets. She made the statement "If her son was getting shot at – she was making bullets so he could shoot back." She and her husband, Andy, lived in the Sunflower Village while working at the plant. Their son Bill (Staff Sergeant William Lee Walker) was in Pacific Theatre during WWII.
