He served in the US Army Air Force obtaining a rank of SGT as an Aerial Engineer Gunner (745). As an Aerial Engineer Gunner, he was responsible for preflight check of all equipment and parts. During flight he kept a constant check on motor operation. He monitored gauges measuring various phases of engine performance. He moved one of the flexible guns to protect the plane when attacked by enemy aircraft. He was responsible for watching fuel gauges and calculating the amount of fuel needed under given flying conditions to bring planes to a base. He received an honorable discharge after serving in Eastern Theatre of Operations and American Theatre. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct, Air Medal 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO) ribbon with five bronze campaign stars, Army Transport Service, and The Victory Ribbon.
