He was a 1933 graduate of the University Kentucky, where he was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps with a rank of second lieutenant. He served as a commander of a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp before graduating from the Army Command School and General Staff college at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was assigned to the US Military mission in Brazil, accompanying troops to Italy during World War II. He was awarded the Medalha de Guerra for his service, served as a battalion commander, and in 1946, was appointed to the assistant military attached to Portugal. He retired from active duty in 1947, he was appointed to the civilian position with the office of finance at the Pentagon. He is the brother of US Army Sgt. Stanley Green Adams who served as a Higgins pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
