Served on the USS Joseph T. Dickman APA-13. Departed May 10, 1943 from East Coast of U.S. Troop convoy and cargo loaded, arrived at Northwest African port May 27, 1943. Participated in the initial invasion of Gela, Sicily, July 10, 1943 and amphibious invasion of Salerno Bay, Italy, September 10, 1943. USS Joseph T.Dickman was employed from September 30, 1943 to November 17, 1943 transporting troops, equipment and medical supplies as reinforcements for the 5th Army in Italy, from northwest Africa to the Naples Area. Departed November 18, 1943 from Naples area, troop convoy and cargo loaded. Arrived at Belfast, Ireland December 9, 1943. Departed December 10, 1943 from Belfast, Ireland and arrived at Gourock, Scotland December 10, 1943. Departed Gourock, Scotland December 20, 1943 and returned to the East Coast port U.S. January 1, 1944. Served with credit aboard the USS Joseph T. Dickman APA-13 during initial invasion for France. Departed June 5, 1944 from Torbay, Southern England, combat loaded with initial amphibious assault troops and their cargo, arrived off coast of Cotentin, Peninsula, Baie de la Seine, France June 6, 1944, debarked and landed the initial amphibious assault troops and cargo. Departed off coast Cotentin Peninsula, Franc. June 6, 1944 arrived in a Southern England port June 7, 1944. Departed Southern England port troop convoy loaded June 13, 1944, arrived off coast Cotentin Peninsula, France June 14, 1944 debarked and landed troops as reinforcements for the army in France. Departed off coast Cotentin Peninsula, France June 14, 1944 and arrived in a Southern England port June 15, 1944. During the initial invasion of Southern France, D-Day August 15, 1944. USS Joseph T. Dickman departed August 13, 1944 from Castellammare Bay, Italy, combat loaded with amphibious assault troops and their cargo, arrived off coast Southern France, in Baie de Bougnon, France August 15, 1944 and debarked and landed amphibious assault troops and cargo. Vessel was employed throughout the entire operation transporting landing follow up troops and equipment as reinforcements for the 7th Army in Southern France.
