Killed while a crew member of the USS Johnston DD-557 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He had survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a crew member of the battleship USS Nevada BB-36. He could have had shore duty for the duration of the war, but chose to return to sea. A brave and patriotic sailor.
