Activity During WWII

Though just a child during the war, she did her part by contributing pocket money to buy savings stamps for war bonds and by helping to recycle materials such as tin foil from her gum and candy wrappers. She also helped to tend the family's chicken yard and victory garden, took part in Civil Defense drills, and helped her mother to roll bandages for the Red Cross.
