Activity During WWII

Served in the Army of the U.S. Participated in aerial fight against the enemy of the United States. D-Day June 6, 1944, 32nd Field Artillery Battalion was attached as part of the 18th Combat Team and participated in the invasion in the vicinity of St. Laurent-Sur-Mer, France. Served as 1st Lieutenant whose duty was that of Forward Observer with the Infantry. He secured a position of observance where he could study enemy strong points. He plotted them on the map, transmitted coordinates of the necessary data and sent it to the Firing Batteries. First Lieutenant Paul B. Zuydhoek (# 01 174 204), received and was entitled to the following decorations and awards in addition to those already in his possession: Purple Heart GO 13, Headquarters 32nd Field Artillery Battalion, dated September 15, 1944 for wounds received in action on September 12, 1944; Good Conduct Medal; American Defense Service Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star for the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Tunisia and Sicily Campaigns; One Bronze Arrowhead for landing on Gela, Sicily, July 9-11, 1943; Distinguished Unit Emblem; and the French Fourragere.
