ENTERED ARMY ON MARCH 3, 1943. SERVED IN GERMANY AND WAS CAPTURED AND HELD PRISONER OF WAR. AFTER SPENDING 5 MONTHS IN PRISON CAMP, WAS LIBERATED BY RUSSIAN FORCES IN APRIL, 1945. RECEIVED PURPLE HEART WITH OAK LEAF CLUSTER. DISCHARGED OCTOBER, 1945.
