Transferred to Army Air Forces and flew 62 missions, shot down over France 9/43. Hidden by French underground, found by Germans, spent 20 months in Stalag Luft 3. Earned Flying Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Killed on routine flight in Pennsylvania mountains and found 9 days later on 6/27/46; his 27th birthday.
