Started with Japan early in 1942. Began as a Junior Officer and advanced to 2nd in command on the new submarine USS Trigger SS-237. The USS Trigger destroyed more than 30 enemy ships. He was given his own command near the war's end, the USS Piper SS-409. Received the Navy Cross.
