Enlisted in the U.S. Navy 1942. Sent overseas to a repair base in England. Base was bombed by Germans on the first night. Bombers came every night between 10:30 and 11:30 for 6 months. American P-38 and Canadian Spitfire aircraft were brought in to fight the German bombers. Served overseas until the German surrender, then served in San Diego.
