Served with Company G, the 5th Infantry at Camp Paraiso, Panama Canal Zone from 1940 to 1942. Transferred to the 2nd Battalion Headquarters, 158th Infantry 'bushmasters' from 1942 to 1944. In Australia, New Guinea, Port Morsby, Goodenough Island, Arawe, New Britain. Combat on Sarmi, Dutch New Guinea, Noemfoor Island. Participated in the invasion at D-day, landing combat driver for Colonel Stofft, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters Company, 158th Infantry.
