He served in the 8th Armored Division as a medical officer in Headquarters, 130th Ordnance Battalion. He also served in the occupation of Western Bohemia in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia; and later in the Austrian Occupation. He was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Germany, receiving three battle stars, as well as other decorations.
