Enlisted September 2, 1942 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee at age 21. Basic training at Virginia and later stationed at Flushing, New York. Assigned to the 602nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion, Battery C. Participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach. Manned 90-mm guns to guard the 9th Air Force landing pads. Also participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhine River Crossing. Discharged November 23, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
