Activity During WWII

After completing basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, instead of being shipped out, my father was kept at Fort Knox to train the new recruits. Training was for a period of 14 weeks. As the war progressed the training time was shortened to 7 weeks. My father kept in touch with men he had trained with. A few years ago, one of these men came to Cape Cod for a visit. He remembered his Platoon Sergeant Gardner Munsey had come from Orleans, Massachusetts on Cape Cod and took the time to look up my father. My father had pictures of units he had trained hanging in his basement and they went down and found the one this man has been in. Needless to say, it meant a lot to my father that this man not only remembered him, but took the time to look him up. My father would have preferred to have been shipped out, but tried to do his best at the job he was given.
