Received Silver Star Award posthumously for his gallantry in action on September 12, 1944 during bridging operations of a river in France. He organized and supervised construction of two heavy pontoon bridges and, without regard for personal safety in recently occupied enemy territory or in the face of enemy fire, went on reconnaissance for a third bridge site.
