Enlisted in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 14, 1940. Assigned for duty, U.S. Marine Detachment, the USS Arizona, September 18, 1940. Survived the bombing and sinking of the Arizona at Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. Also served with the Marine forces, 14th Naval District, 3rd Marine Air Wing, Fleet Marine Force and 3rd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force Pacific. Released from active duty at the Marine corps Air Station, in Eagle Mountain Lake, Fort Worth, Texas, on January 11, 1946.
