After the Italian campaign, his division participated in the invasion of Southern France. Against stiff resistance, they fought through the French mountains in the harsh winter of 1944 - 1945; broke the Siegfried Line and crossed into Germany at Saarbrucken. Then east, crossed the Rhine at Worms, then east and south to capture Munich and liberate the Dachau death camp.
