Activity During WWII

Joined April 2, 1942. Called to active duty October 1942 as Aviation Cadet. Commissioned Lieutenant April 22, 1943. B-17 pilot training until October 1943. Reported to the 379th Bomb Group, 526th Bomb Squadron in November 1943. Flew 31 missions. Wounded by enemy fighter fire on December 30, 1943. Crash-landed battle damaged B-17 in England on July 4, 1943. Returned to the U.S. in August 1944. B-17 Pilot Instructor at end of war. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster.
