Served in the 'Rainbow Division' in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns as a radio operator when his patrol was under heavy fire, he went between section leaders to maintain communications and relay them to Battalion headquarters. Awarded the Bronze Star before going to Europe served as a Bugler and Military Policeman.
