Activity During WWII

Served with the Big Red One in 8 campaigns and participated in 3 Amphibious assault landings. He received a Battlefield Commission during the battle of the Huertgen Forest, Germany. In June 1945, he served in Infantry assignments at Fort McClellan, Alabama and Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In August 1946, was appointed into the Regular Army as an artillery officer. Since then he served in Field Artillery command positions as a Battery, Battalion and Brigade Commander and also as a staff officer in the headquarters of the Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Continental Army Command and the 1st U.S. Army. Decorations: the Silver Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the French and Belgium Fourragere Medals.
