Flew transport planes over the Hump, Himalayas. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The day I was born my father pinned a cigar to the bulletin board announcing my birth. An unmarried pilot whose first name was Ted had my father grounded so that he could take dad's flight assignment that day and give dad a day to celebrate. That pilot never returned from that mission. My father named me Ted after that brave pilot's courage.
