Activity During WWII

Volunteered in 1940. Active duty on February 10, 1941 with the 34th Division. Was with the first American Troops in Ireland and Scotland. The Invasion of North Africa; unit fired the first American artillery shell at the Germans, made the first contact with the German Army in Tunisia and fought the entire length of Italy; Salerno, Casino, Anzio, Rome, Florence, Milan. At war's end, the unit was near the Swiss border. Compiled more days on the front lines than any other unit in the European Theater; 611 days on the line.
