Landed in Europe in July 1944 with Patton's 3rd Army in the 80th Division. He fought across France and was involved in the Liberation of Pont-a-Mousson, where he was shot on September 17, 1944 and evacuated to England. He spent the balance of the war in Army hospitals in England and the U.S.
