Had basic training at Fort Hood and was shipped out as a tank destroyer machine gunner. Received orders to Guadalcanal as a replacement to the 25th division in July and was assigned to a Battery, 8th Field Artillery. Was sent to New Zealand and Philippines. Afterwards he achieved the rank of sergeant. Was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific, Philippine Liberation, Victory and occupation medals.
