Entered the service on October 23, 1944. He was 18 years old and a farm boy. He served on the USS Altamaha CVE-18 aircraft carrier as a gunner's mate, fireman and carpenter. He sustained a leg injury during a battle but fortunately was not hurt badly. He was discharged on June 20, 1946.
