He was a Sergeant in the motor pool and mechanic with the 201st Quartermaster Battalion in France, Belgium and Germany. Also in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Drove 2 1/2-ton GMC, hauling cans of gasoline from supply depots to front supply points. Also drove troops to the front lines and returned them. He received 5 Bronze stars, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal and 3 overseas service bars.
