Activity During WWII

Enlisted in the Army, 80th Field Artillery at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. Then moved to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri to become part of the 6th Infantry Division. The division went on maneuvers to Tennessee and then back to Fort Leonard Wood for training. The division was then ordered to participate in desert maneuvers at Camp Dusty in Yuma, Arizona after completion. Moved on to Camp San Luis Obispo in California for training and processing for overseas. Moved onto Hawaii for Island Defense and Jungle Training. Upon completion, boarded ship for New Guinea for training and confrontation with the Japanese. After much combat in new Guinea, we boarded LST ships with all equipment for an unknown destination. After several days at sea and fighting off kamikaze airplanes we arrived at Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines where we made an invasion landing. Then on to Manila for combat, east to Marakina Mountains and north to Munoz, Philippines and Bagabag, Philippines, where I left the division to come back to the states.
