As a young school girl, sold flower and vegetable seeds for victory gardens and saved special ten cent stamps pasted in books in order to purchase war bonds. She collected scraps of foil, gathering them into wads for metal recycling. Her own three-wheeler was likely to have been donated to the cause. Participated in food rationing and air raid drills.
