Activity During WWII

Drafted in March 1943. Trained in the 106th 'Lions Head' Division at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. 1944, joined Company D (heavy weapons), of the 145th Regiment, 88th 'Blue Cloverleaf' Division at Naples, Italy. In continuous combat from the Arno River, June 1944 until September 28, 1944. Wounded at Mount Battaglia, Pisa, Italy, on the 5th Army front. Was a gunner on 60 mm mortars and 30 caliber machine guns. Qualified with the pistol and earned the expert rifleman rating. Other citations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, One Bronze Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
