Enlisted November 20, 1943 from Vernon County, Wisconsin. Basic training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Combat rifleman in infantry. February 2, 1945 Fort Meade. Camp Patrick Henry then to Naples, Italy. Awarded European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon. Fought in Rome-Arno Campaign with the 34th Infantry Division. Wounded October 29, 1944. Discharged as disabled from Percy James Hospital at Fort Custer, Michigan July of 1945.
