Activity During WWII

Entered active service August 9, 1943 at Naval Receiving Station, Washington, D.C. Completed basic training at Bainbridge, Maryland. Attended amphibious assault training for LCVP at Little Creek, Virginia and Fort Pierce, Florida. Assigned to LST 540. Sailed for Europe March 1944. Participated in the D-Day assault, June 6, 1944. After V-E Day, sailed to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater on LST 540. Participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa, May and June 1945. After V-J Day, assigned to the USS Argonne; participated in 'Operation Magic Carpet.' Awarded the European Theater Medal with one star, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Theater Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and a letter of Commendation. Honorably discharged April 19, 1946.
