Aviation Machinist's Mate. Stood watch for a buddy aboard the USS Randolph (carrier) in Ulithi Harbor, known as a safe zone. Two enemy planes chose to attack the Randolph and made a direct hit on the fantail, beneath which he was standing on another man's watch.
