Drafted into the Air Force. Selected for Officers Candidate School. Upon graduation was assigned to the 379th Bomb Group, B-17 Aircraft, for training. Served with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations for 2 years. Trained by Royal Air Force in air sea rescue operations for the 379th Bomb Group H. Assigned to Group Headquarters as a Ground Training Officer specializing in air sea rescue operations and procedures. After serving in the European Theater was transferred to Air Transport Command in Casablanca, French Morocco, in charge of air sea rescue operations and transporting troops back to U.S.
