Joined the Army in 1944 when he was 18 years old and served in the Infantry in France and Germany in 1945 in the 3rd Army of General George Patton. Was in the crossing of the Rhine River under fire; also crossed the Danube River into Austria from Germany. On V-E Day, was in Lenz, Austria.
