Stationed in Southampton, England; sent to Belgium, France and Germany as a Staff Sergeant in charge of 12 men in the 271st Infantry, 69th Division. Wounded 3 times with shrapnel and a machine gun bullet wound to the back. Taken away from the combat zone by the last injury in Germany and was hospitalized in France, December 1944. Engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. Awarded 3 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct medal.
