Autumn 1942, served aboard USS Libra AK-53 at Guadalcanal. June 1943 landed and was assigned to boat pool number 8 at Rendova, New Georgia Islands. Supported troops and PT Squadron number 11 with supplies. Was there when JFK's boat sunk. January 1944 was transferred to USS President Jackson. After many campaigns through Iwo Jima, was transferred to Navy Yard, Washington D.C. May 1945. Awards: Bronze Star with Combat V, Purple Heart with 2 Gold Stars, Presidential Unit Citation (FDR), Navy Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Silver Star and 4 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Liberation Medal.
