B-24 CREW CHIEF, 508TH BOMB GROUP 'THE FLYING CIRCUS'. DEBARKED TROOPSHIP UNDER FIRE IN DARWIN, AUSTRALIA, JANUARY-FEBRUARY 1942, DURING ENEMY AIR RAID, HAD TO DIVE INTO HARBOR FROM GANGPLANK. FLEW B-24 ON MISSIONS OUT OF ALICE SPRINGS, AUSTRALIA, OVER RABAUL, NEW BRITAIN AND BALIKPAPAN, BORNEO. INJURED LEFT ARM AND HAND DURING CRASH LANDING AT HOME BASE AFTER MISSION. SERVED AS INFANTRYMAN INVADING MINDANAO ISLAND, PHILIPPINES. BASED ON SAIPAN OR TINIAN AT WAR'S END.
