Enlisted in the Navy a week before his 18th birthday to serve his country. His ship, USS Monitor LSV-5 was converted to a hospital ship to bring home our military held prisoners in Tokyo. He was in Tokyo Bay for the signing of Japan's surrender on the USS Missouri.
