Was working for the U.S. Navy Yard, Cavite, Philippines when the Japanese bombed December 8, 1941. Retreated to Bataan with the U.S. Forces. Worked at Cabcaben Air Field. Filled in bomb holes and kept the Air Field open after each enemy bombing raid. Escaped to Corregidor when Bataan fell. Subsequently captured and held as a prisoner of war with the rest of military.
