Trained in Armored Force, but went overseas in Infantry, Platoon Sergeant, Maintenance Company, 6th Armored Division and as Cadre in the 14th Armored Division. attended Army Specialized Training Program in Blacksburg, Virginia. Transferred to Company M, 387th Infantry Regiment of the 97th Infantry Division. Went to Europe as Technical Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, closing Ruhr Pocket. Platoon leader was killed and he was awarded a battlefield commission to 2nd Lieutenant. Then, to Japan as part of the Occupying Forces.
